Historia
Corinne Lonsdale is a former town councilor and mayor of Squamish. She was born in 1944 and moved to Squamish at age 18. First elected as a councilor in 1983, she served on town council in Squamish for 25 years. She quit her job of 30 years at the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and served nine years as mayor of Squamish (elected in 1993, becoming Squamish's first female mayor), choosing not to run her fourth term because she wanted to spend more time with her family and pursue a dream of spending the winter in the sun. During her tenure as mayor, Squamish council got the Stawamus Chief designated a provincial park and landed the bid for the establishment of Quest University, despite bids from six other communities. Lonsdale served on the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) and the Union of BC Municipalities executive for 10 years, the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee and the Lower Mainland Local Government Association for 17 years, and the Forest Renewal BC Public Advisory Commission and Ministers' Advisory Council on Forest Practices Code for approximately five years. She retired as mayor in 2011. Corinne was the first person to receive the District of Squamish's "Freedom of the Municipality" award. She and her husband have three children.
