History
Jim "Jimbo" Kennedy is a long-time Whistler resident. He grew up in Scarborough, ON, attending high school at West Hill Collegiate Institute in the 1960s. He studied at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, ON before moving to Whistler in the early 1970s to ski. In the 1980s, he was living on Alta Lake Road on the West side of Alta Lake and was working as a labourer. He purchased one of the first mountain bikes on sale in the Whistler Valley when Doris Burma opened the door to Summit Cycles in 1983, purchasing a $500 Nishiki Bushwacker. In the mid-1980s, long before the bike park opened, Jimbo and his ski racer friends took their bikes up the gondola to mid-station on Whistler Mountain to ride down the Jolly Green Giant ski run as part of a stag party. He enjoys skiing, golf, and playing pickleball in his spare time.
