Pat Brennan was born at Woodfibre, and moved to Squamish in 1947 when he entered the logging business. Here he operated Squamish Mills Ltd. with business partner John Drenka. He was first elected councillor of the village of Squamish in 1960, and became mayor in 1962. He remained mayor until 1974, when he did not seek re-election. He was subsequently elected in 1976 and 1978. In 1974, Mr. Brennan was appointed to the board of the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) by the NDP government, and was elected president of the exhibition. He resigned from the board in 1976. He was a guiding hand for harness racing in BC, and had his own half-mile racing track in Squamish. Here he had about 30 standard-bred horses. He also played a major role in establishing harness racing at Cloverdale.
