Bayly, Steve

Steve Bayly was a founding director and former general manager of the Whistler Housing Authority, serving on the board for 11 years. He was also both a private and public employee housing developer. With partner Jon Paine, he built the Barnfield Farm housing project. He was also one of the key players in building Function Junction. During his time on the board of the Whistler Housing Authority, more than 1,000 housing units were developed. In November 2004, Bayly was hired by the municipality as the housing expeditor, charged with finding more employee housing opportunities as the waitlist for housing topped more than 500 applicants. Shortly after, he had brokered a deal with the owners of the Rainbow lands for a large-scale employee housing project north of the village. In 2007, Steve Bayly resigned from the board of the Whistler Housing Authority. Mayor Ken Melamed presented a plaque to Bayly shortly after at a council meeting. Bayly Park in Cheakamus Crossing was named after Steve Bayly in thanks for the work he has done for employee housing in Whistler. Bayly won Citizen of the Year in Whistler in 2018. He was also on the board for the Disabled Skiers Association, now known as Whistler Adaptive. His wife is Andrea Bayly, and they have two children, Matthew and Nancy.
