A "Joy Ride" in Florida

Item is a postcard labelled "A "Joy Ride" in Florida," sent from Aunt [Margaret?] in Leesburg, Florida to Bobbie Neilan [sic] at 35 1/2 Mile. The front of the card has an image of 9 African-American children riding a large alligator along a palm tree-lined stream.

On the back of the card is a handwritten message from the sender to her nephew Robert Jardine-Neiland. In the top left-hand corner is a printed poem. There is a green one-cent American postage stamp in the top right corner. The card is postmarked February 27 9 PM 1935 in Leesburg.

Burns' Statue Square, Ayr

Postcard labelled "Burns' Statue Square, Ayr," sent from Aunty Mary (Mary Rutherford?) in Ayr, Scotland to Bobby Jardine at 35 1/2 Mile. The front of the card has a tinted photograph of a square with buildings, horse-drawn carriages and a statue of Robert Burns.

On the back of the card is a handwritten message from Aunt Mary to Robert Jardine. There is a red one-cent British stamp in the top right corner. The card is postmarked 4.30 PM October 6 1923 in Ayr.

Easter Cheer

Postcard labelled "Easter Cheer" sent from "J.B. + M.B. A.B." in Pembroke, Ontario, to Miss Jenny Jardine at 34 1/2 Mile. The front of the card has an image of a pastoral riverside scene ringed with flowers and a Christian cross in the top right hand corner. Also on the front of the card is a printed message; "Sunny bright / with joy and cheer / May your Easter / hours appear."

On the back of the card is a handwritten message from sender to Jenny Jardine. There is a yellow one-cent Canadian stamp in the top right corner. Card is postmarked March 31st 1926, Pembroke, Ont.

Easter Greetings

Postcard labelled "Easter Greetings," sent from Aunt [Margaret?] in Vicksburg, Michigan to Master Bobby Neilan [sic] at 34 1/2 Mile. The front of the card has a drawing of two anthropomorphic rabbits hopping over Easter eggs. Also on the front of the card is a printed message: "Bunnies greet you, they've come to say / I wish you well this Easter Day." On the back of the card is a handwritten message from the sender to her nephew Bobby Jardine-Neiland. There is a red two-cent American stamp placed upside-down in the top right corner. The card is postmarked March 29, 192[8?] in Vicksburg.

Greetings from Laverne, Okla.

Postcard labelled "Greetings from LAVERNE, OKLA." sent from Joy Smith to Jenny W. Neiland at 40 Mile. The front of the card has a tinted photograph of trees and flowers next to a lake, with hills or mountains in the distance. On the back of the card is a handwritten message from Joy Smith to Jenny Neiland. There is a green one-cent U.S. stamp in the top right corner. The card is postmarked June 14 in Laverne and June 19, 1941 in Alta Lake.

High Street, Kinross

Postcard labelled "High Street, Kinross" sent from Thomas Neiland, Jr. to his parents, Thomas and Lizzie Neiland, during his time with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Scotland. On the front of the card is a black and white photograph of the High Street in Kinross, with a building marked 'Post Office' and a tall clock tower in the foreground. There is also a purple oval stamp, partially faded, marked "R.C.A.F." and dated February 26, 1944. On the back of the card is a handwritten message from "Tommy" to his parents at 34 1/2 Mile. The card has no stamp. It is postmarked February 26, 1944, Field Post Office.

Hippopotamus in Breckenridge Park

Postcard labelled "Hippopotamus in Breckenridge Park, San Antonio, Texas," sent from [Aunt?] to Mr. Bob Neilan [sic]. The front of the card has a tinted photograph of a hippo in a zoo exhibit, with crowds of people watching from across a pool. On the back of the card is a handwritten message from the sender in San Antonio to Robert Jardine-Neiland at 34 1/2 Mile. There is a printed blurb about Breckenridge Park in the top left. A green one-cent American stamp is in the top right corner. The card was postmarked at 9:30 PM, March 9 1934, in San Antonio, Texas.

Item is a postcard labelled "Horseshoe Bay, BC" sent from [Ins.?] to Mrs. Wallace O. (Jenny) Betts. On the front of the card is a black and white photograph of a marina in Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver. On the back of the card is a handwritten message from the sender to Jenny Betts at Alta Lake. There is a brown two-cent Canadian stamp in the top right corner. The card is postmarked July 22, 1938 in Whytecliff, B.C.
