History
Moira McCarthy (nee Wallace) was. She was born on March 25, 1922 in Vancouver to parents Frederick Martin Wallace and Sarah Wallace (nee Pinkney), who had moved to a chicken farm in Surrey, BC from London England with Moira's sister, Pat, who was born in 1919. Moira attended Pauline Johnson Elementary School and West Vancouver High School, both in West Vancouver. Growing up, they would ski at Hollyburn Mountain and go hiking and berry-picking in West Vancouver.Moira and her sister Pat used to come up to stay Rainbow Lodge in Alta Lake (now known as Whistler) between the late 1930s and the 1950s, spending their summers horseback-riding and canoeing. Moira met her husband-to-be, James "Jim" D. McCarthy through Pat Prowd, who also regularly visited Rainbow Lodge and was a distant cousin of Jim. Jim and Moira became engaged at Rainbow Lodge on December 31, 1951. She and Jim had a daughter, Megahn, and a son, Martin. Moira and Jim lived in West Vancouver and would frequently visit Whistler and Sonoma, CA. Moira volunteered with the Vancouver Art Gallery, Marpole Auxiliary, St. Stephen's Church, and was a member of The Hong Kong Veteran's Association and the West Vancouver Historical Society. Her husband passed away [before 2007], and Moira followed on April 28, 2015.
