History

Dave Mathews was a Canadian dentist, freelance sports reporter, and sports official active with the Garibaldi Olympic Development Association (GODA) during the 1960s. Working in Vancouver as a dentist, he was also president of the British Columbia Amateur Athletic Union (BC AAU) during the 1960s. In this capacity, he became a member of GODA, which aimed to secure the 1968 Winter Olympic bid for the Whistler area (unsuccessful). He travelled to Squaw Valley, CA for the 1960 Winter Olympic Games as a freelance reporter in order to fact-find for GODA.
