History
Ray Mason is a mountaineer, mountain guide, and snowmobiler based in Pemberton. In 1967, he was part of the first ascent party of Joffre Peak (which also included Dick Chambers, Joe Hutton, Cyril Scott, and Paddy Sherman). They named Joffre Peak after Joffre Creek, which is in turn named after Commander-in-Chief of the French Armies in World War I, General Joseph Jacques Césaire Joffre. Ray visited Mount Whistler Lodge (formerly Hillcrest Lodge) on Alta Lake in Whistler in the 1970s. Ray is married to Pearl Mason and lives in Pemberton, from where he runs mountain and snowmobiling guiding tours under the name Totally Awesome Adventures.
