Brad Lennea is a Canadian retired para-alpine ski racer based in Whistler. He was born in 1972. Originally from Mission, BC, Lennea was paralyzed as a result of a car crash in 1991. He used to ski at Hemlock ski area before the accident, and three years afterwards, he found himself back on the slopes on a sit-ski with the help of friends who worked as lift operators for the mountain. Within another three years he was ski racing at the provincial championships at Cypress Mountain, where he won two gold medals and caught the attention of Whistler's Phil Chew, the head coach for what was then called the BC Disabled Ski Team. Brad started para-ski racing in 1996, his first year on the BC Ski Team. Brad moved to Whistler in the 2000s to step up his training, meanwhile working his way up the ranks to the development team for the 2002/2003 season. He was named to the Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team in 2003. Because he skied in all four alpine disciplines, he had a full schedule of 24 international races on his plate each season, training at three different training camps over the summers. He competed for Team Canada in the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games, competing in alpine skiing. In 2008, Lennea retired from ski racing due to a series of injuries, giving up the Canadina Para-Alpine Ski Team and a chance to compete at home in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games. Also in 2008, he was selected to be a torchbearer for the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, China. In 2009, he unveiled the torch and uniform design for the 2010 Paralympic Torch Relay in Vancouver. After retiring, he provided sports commentating for the 2010 Paralympic Games and was also involved with workshops in Whistler surrounding accessibility and adaptive sports during the Games. He has since been involved with Whistler Adaptive.
