      History

      Barbara Joan Laird (nee Manson) was. She was born on April 17,1933 in Nanaimo, BC. She had a brother named David. Barbara moved to Vancouver with her parents in 1935. In her youth, Barbara loved figure skating at the Kerrisdale Figure Skating Club and horseback riding at Southlands. She attended Prince of Wales Elementary School, and later York House School where she excelled athletically and academically to become Head Girl and President of the Students Council. She graduated in Home Economics from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 1955, and the following year completed her internship in Hospital Diatetics at the University of Toronto General Hospital. She then travelled to Singapore, where she met and married Alexander Sinclair "Clair" Laird. They lived first in Singapore, then in London, England, and finally in Vancouver. For many years, she served as dietician to Shaughnessy Hospital and as head dietician to Burnaby General Hospital, after which she and Clair retired to Davis Bay, BC, on the Sunshine Coast, where she lived the remainder of her life. She and Clair enjoyed ballroom dancing, skiing in Whistler, and golf at Point Grey and Sunshine Coast Golf Clubs and she always loved her bridge. She passed away on March 19, 2015.
