History

Dave Kirk is a former alderman and owner of Whistler Village Sports in Whistler, as well as a long-time Whistler resident. While living in Vancouver, he began skiing in Whistler in 1966. Influenced by his uncle, one of Whistler’s earliest developers, he invested in a sports store in Whistler while teaching at a school in Vancouver in the 1970s, Whistler Village Sports, and eventually opened Whistler Creek Ski Shop in Creekside in the 1980s. He moved to Whistler full-time, settling in the Alta Vista area. In the early 1980s, he was vice president of the Whistler Chamber of Commerce. He was elected as a councillor for the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) in 1990, serving until 2002. In the 2010s, he was a director on the board of the Whistler Nordics (cross-country skiing). He also currently sits on the board of the Whistler Museum & Archives Society.
