Ski Films

Various ski films from Jim McConkey's personal collection. Some are films with McConkey in them and others are just general ski films that he owned.

Cut-up contact sheets

Photographs depicting aerial views of mountains (mostly Whistler Mountain), people skiing, heli-skiing, the gondola, and people relaxing on the mountain. These photos were most likely taken during scouting trips by Franz Wilhelmsen to plan the ski resort, as well as the first open season of the ski resort.

The photographs are chiefly of skiing, snowboarding, mountain scenery, aerial shots, Whistler Village, skiing and Snowboarding competitions (including the Molson World Cup Downhill and World Cup of Snowboarding), summer sports, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, heli-skiing, heli-boarding, and hotels and condominiums. The collection also includes photographs of well-known Whistler residents and athletes, historical moments in Whistler (such as the opening of Blackcomb Mountain, the construction of Whistler Village, squatter culture), and various events in Whistler.

A letter from Garibaldi Lifts Ltd. to Okanagan Helicopters thanking them for all the help with the construction of the lifts on Whistler Mountain. They also state that it would be in the public interest for them to obtain a base at Whistler Mountain, and that they'd support their application to do so.

The posters include a black and white poster promoting the Porsche Club of America's third annual weekend event in Whistler on the weekend of August 26th-28th, 1983, a poster advertising a Halloween masquerade ball fundraiser, a poster print of a painting of a ski racer in a yellow racing outfit skiing downhill amidst an abstract run with trees and snow, a large colour poster with the title " Whistler Resort Getaway", a large colour poster promoting the Whistler Summer Street Festival from between [1987 and the 1990s], a colour poster for the Music in the Mountains Whistler concert series in 1995 and 1996, a print of a vantage map of the Whistler Valley and surrounding mountains in 1994, a large collectors edition poster of the 1998 Canada's World Cup Ski Team, a poster advertising all the summer activities available at Whistler, a poster advertising the Molson World Downhill race that ran in Whistler on March 11th, 1984, a poster for Heli-Skiing Whistler, a poster of Creekside Base and Whistler Mountain at night in the [late 1970s or early 1980s], a poster for the 1984 Volvo Ski Show World Tour, a poster about the 1984 Whistler Winterfest, a large poster for the Shell Cup Canadian Championships for Cross Country Skiing, and a large poster for the Shell Cup Canadian Championships for Alpine Downhill ski racing.

Fond consists of material donated by Gordon McKeever and includes promotional stickers for Whistler Mountain and Whistler Blackcomb, a promotional book for Whistler's restaurants, four travel planners created by the Whistler Resort Association to promote both Winter and Summer seasons between 1997 and 2000, a paper spiral bound guide for Whistler Resort Association (WRA) members from November 15th, 1996, a 1999 VHS promotional resort video guide for the Resort Municipality of Whistler, a variety of materials supporting the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, four paper business directory booklets printed for the Whistler Chamber of Commerce dating from 1994, 1996, and 1999, and sixteen posters depicting a variety of subject matter including Whistler festivals, ski racing events, concert series, car shows, heli-skiing, Molson and Shell Cups, and Whistler Resort tourism.
