Film of a woman on horseback riding in front of Rainbow Lodge, the woman appears to be Jean Tapley; horses in a corral - probably Myrtle's horses at Rainbow Lodge; a woman, possibly Myrtle Philip and an unknown lodge, probably the Flying U Ranch near 70 Mile House, British Columbia.

The box for the film has written in Myrtle's handwriting "Flying U Ranch 1935".

Film of a boat named Canim, presumably on Canim Lake; Myrtle Philip holding up a large fish that she has just caught, again presumably on Canim Lake; McGilvary Lodge, apparently filmed from a moving train or other vehicle; scenes of Squamish including the PGE railway pier and the Chief. The box for the film has written in Myrtle's handwriting "Canim Lake, Oct 1935" and inside the box is a piece of paper typed by typewriter "Boat named Canim / McGilvary Lodge / Squamish / October 1935."

The fonds consists of personal papers of Myrtle Philip, including education documents, journals, diaries, banking records, certificates and passports, legal and property records, correspondence, birthday and recipe books, postcards of the Alta Lake/Whistler area, scrapbooks, reference material, and photographs. The photographs depict the Philip family, people (including guests at Rainbow Lodge), events, and scenes of the Whistler area. The fonds includes Alex Philip's manuscripts, as well as records relating to his estate. The fonds also includes records of Rainbow Lodge, including guest registers (1915-1947), a cashbook (1928-1952), employee records (1941-1948), invoices, and receipts.

02-405-A-3. Pg. 1. Caption:It will be 70 years to the day Friday that Myrtle Philip first set foot in the Whistler area. Mrs. Philip, who just celebrated her 93rd birthday March 19, and her husband arrived in what later became the community of Alta Lake in 1914 and soon built Rainbow Lodge, which served as a fishing lodge on Alta Lake. Last Monday, Grade 5 students from Myrtle Philip School, named in honor of Whistler's pioneer in 1976, gathered around Mrs. Philip at her home on the shores of Alta Lake.

02-402-C-12. Pg. 1. Caption: The venerable Myrtle Philip drew the winning ticket Thursday in a draw for a Molson World Downhill poster signed by the Canadian downhill team. Assisted by Glen Rusted (right), Whistler's grandmother chose Bill Carson's ticket. That's Carson to the left. Proceeds from the draw went to the Whistler Singers, which performed Thursday at the elementary school accompanied by the students. The show, which ended in a standing ovation for orchestrator Molly Boyd, featured musical performances by the kids on recorder, guitar and ukulele.

Caption: [bottom] Thirty-one students graduated from Pemberton Secondary Friday Night, including Scott Logue of Whistler (above right) who received the Governor General's Bronze Medal for academics from school Superintendent Trevor Harris. More than 500 people attended the commencement ceremonies at the Pemberton school, making it the second largest annual event in the town next to the Christmas concert at Signal Hill Elementary. Logue, also class valedictorian, was among three local students who received awards. Rod O'Keefe was awarded the Whistler Mountain Ski Corporation bursary, and the Alta Lake Community Club picked Rob Boyd as this year's recipient of its bursary.

02-402-B-17. Pg. 17. Caption: Skiing may be over for the year, but work on Whistler Mountain still continues. At the end of each season all the chairs, including those on Olive Chair, are taken off the cables, checked and then moved to a different spot to prevent metal stress. As well, the metal clamps holding the chain to the cable periodically undergo magnetic tests for cracks.

02-360-2. Pg. 11. Caption: Raw energy, raw blues, and the velvet voice of John Hammond made a 2 1/2-hour concert at Brackendale Art Gallery Saturday seem like five minutes. Hammond has cut over 20 albums since 1962, but is still one of the lesser known bluesmen in North America.

Silvered, comprised of Australian musicians Ken Kirschman and Geoff Gibbons, are masterful musicians reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel. A recent EP release has generated rave reviews. Silvered were featured at The Brass Rail Wednesday through Sunday.
