Pantages joined bout 35 other car enthusiasts over the weekend for a hillclimb race of the steep, winding road to Blackcomb Daylodge. Slightly modified cars raced as well as exotic speedsters, but out of all the cars the fastest time was turned in by a dune buggy. Drivers competed in a slalom course as well as in Blackcomb parking lot. The hillclimb and rally were sponsored by the Burnaby-Coquitlam Motorsport Association. Competitors came form as far away as Prince George.

Originally built by Al Bosse last winter, the municipality had to negotiate with the provincial highways department to receive permission to erect the signs within 50 feet of the highway. 02-362-137. Pg. 11. Caption: A 1983 Datsun left Highway 99 Friday, landing on its roof and sending the driver to hospital. The car was northbound on a long straightaway north of White Gold. The driver, Wade Knutson of Vancouver, was passing a car when he was forced to drive off the road to avoid an oncoming car. The Datsun flipped twice, through Knutson clear. Nuts was taken to a local doctor and then to a Vancouver hospital. He is in stable but not serious condition. However, Knutson will be charged with passing while unsafe. The car received $4,000 damage.

The Energy Pals, a duo, eventually won and took home two pairs of Blizzard skis. In second place were The Superbs followed by the five-member "Culture Club" (above).
