Don MacLaurin

Fonds contain the records of Don MacLaurin. MacLaurin was involved in the forestry industry of British Columbia, taught at BCIT, and was heavily involved with the Resort Municipality of Whistler. He was in several forestry associations, including the Canadian Institute of Forestry, British Columbia Foresters, and the Forest Nursery Association of British Columbia. MacLaurin created the Whistler Interpretive Forest. MacLaurin also completed assessments for private developers. Included in the fonds are his personal records.

Most of the records were created in the Whistler region.

Mammals of the Alta Lake Region of South-western British Columbia booklet

A booklet entitled "Mammals of the Alta Lake Region of South-western British Columbia" by Kenneth Racey and Ian McTaggart Cowan. The booklet is noted to be "reprinted without change of paging from the report of the Provincial Museum, 1935". Contains a description of the Alta Lake region including weather patterns, vegetation and the surrounding mountains. Provides descriptions of 1-2 paragraphs for each of the 42 mammals present in the Alta Lake region. Also includes five plates of black and white photographs of the landscape in the area.

Varsity Outdoor Club Journals

Series consists of 6 photocopied pages from two separate volumes of The Varsity Outdoor Club Journal, published by the University of British Columbia. Both sets of photocopies include the title page of the journal, a black-and-white photograph, and articles.

  • Volume II (1959) includes a photograph of Mt. Logan from Hubbard-Donjek Neve and a letter from mountaineer Dr. Neal M. Carter recounting mountain-climbing expeditions and the naming of peaks in Garibaldi Park in the 1920s. The letter has an introduction written by Karl Ricker, the donor.

  • Volume VIII (1965) includes a photograph of Veeocee Mountain and Ubyssey Glacier, and an article by Neal M. Carter, “Some Notes on the Historical Background of the Alta Lake – Fitzsimmons Creek Area," recounting various alpine expeditions made in the area (primarily in the 1920s).
