Alta Lake from Above Rainbow Lodge

This photograph shows a view of Alta Lake from above Rainbow Lodge. Although the photograph is dated 1944, the presence of what appear to be power lines in the foreground suggests that this may have been later, after the Rainbow Substation was built on Highway 99 in 1964-1965.

See the Length of that Cow

This photograph was taken in front of the Alta Lake Store and Post Office on the grounds of Rainbow Lodge.

There is an annotation on the reverse of the photograph which reads, "1919-- 'See the length of that cow.' Myrtle we put the cows to Pemb for the winter and they hadn't secured the door properly. There was a long grade, and with the train jerking, it yanked the door open. One heifer saw a pile of ties, and jumped off the train. They had to stop the train, and go back and catch that cow, and arrange the ties so she could get back in."
