Taking dynamite to Fitzsimmon's copper mine

Three copies of a photograph taken outside Rainbow Lodge. A group of men stand with Lorimer's old white horse, laden with dynamite about to go to Fitzsimmon's copper mine. From L-R: Billy Bailiff, Bill McDermitt, Jimmy Fitzsimmons, Alex Philip Sr, Tom Wilson, Hugh Lorimer, ?, Bill Holloway.

A later annotation on one of the copies, probably made by museum staff claims "Summer, 1918." Photograph 1989_0982 Philip appears to have been taken at the same time as this one. In 'Whistler Reflections' 0982 is labelled '1916', however we do not know where this information came from.

The photo shows the Main Lodge prior to construction of the dining hall and instalation of dormer windows.

About to go to Fitzsimmons mine

Two copies of a photograph taken outside Rainbow Lodge. A group of men stand with Hugh Lorimer's old white horse (Lorimer hired out packhorses to trappers, prospectors and hunting parties), laden with dynamite about to go to Fitzsimmon's copper mine. From L-R: Bill Holloway, Jimmy Fitzsimmons, Bill Bailiff, Bill MacDermott, Alex Philip Sr and Tom Wilson.

Annotation on the back of one of the copies reads "Around 1916, Bill Holloway prospector, Jimmy Fitzsimmons of Fitzsimmons mine. Bill Bailiff, Bill MacDermott, Alex Philip (senior), Tom Wilson, leaving for prospecting trip to Fitzsimmons Glacier area mine."

Annotation on the back of the second reads "First saddle house in Alta Lake country - man with packing dynamite up to Fitzsimmons mine (half way up Blackcomb)".

In 'Whistler Reflections' this photograph is captioned '1916', however we do not know where this information came from.
