First Landing on Alta Lake Prints

Prints made from negatives taken by Myrtle Philip of the 1922 first landing on Alta Lake. The aircraft that landed was a Curtiss HS2L flying boat, flown by Earl Leslie "E.L." MacLeod and landed on Alta Lake on September 1, 1922.

Subjects discussed include holiday parties and dances, the purchasing of a projector, hosting films, Girl Guides and Cubs, memorial benches, the purchasing of a snowplow, logging, moving the Alta Lake School flagpole, fire safety, postal service, roads, Robbie Burns Night, fishing derbies, art lessons, theatre, Myrtle Philip's birthday, the Squamish Youth Choral, Blackcomb Ski Club, Rainbow Mountain ski hill, the Pacific Great Eastern Railway, TV's coming to the Whistler valley, building the Whistler Mountain Ski Club building, the formation of a ski club, the Mountain Rescue Group, Mount Whistler Lodge, Alta Lake Ratepayers Association, building a new school, physical education classes on the mountain, Cypress Lodge, donation to the Garibaldi Olympic Development Association, Highland Lodge, the Logger's Sports Day Parade, seasons passes for children, square-dancing, and badminton.
A pamphlet made for the opening of the original Myrtle Philip Elementary School which opened October 26, 1976. The pamphlet lays out the programme for the opening day. The programme begins with O Canada, followed by an Invocation by Mr. Gary McLeod, then a welcome by Mr. Fougberg (chairman of the board), then a greeting from the Mayor Pat Carleton, then some remarks from the Architect Mr. Davies and by one of the builders Mr. Storm, this will be followed by the entertainment provided by the pupils and introduced by the Principal Mr. Griffin, then there will be a thanking of the pupils by Mrs. M. Marchant, this will be followed by the introduction of the guest speaker Mr. E. A. Maglio the districts superintendent of schools, then an address and unveiling of plaque by Mrs. J. Phillipson the associate deputy minister of education, and finally closing remarks by Mrs. M. Philip.
The school opened with 57 students but the number of students quickly outgrew the school and a new school was built in 1992 and the original Myrtle Philip Elementary School was torn down to make way for Whistler Village, and now the Delta hotel sits where the school used to be.
