History
Anna Helmer is a farmer at Helmer's Organic Farms in Pemberton. She holds a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of British Columbia (UBC). Anna and her family have farmed organically in Pemberton since clearing the land and making fields in 1980, and she is among the fourth generation of the family to farm in the Pemberton Valley, primarily the famed Pemberton potatoes. The farm sells their produce through farmer’s markets, in CSA boxes, to restaurants, and at their roadside stand. They grow up to eighteen varieties of potatoes, some for consumption and others for seed. In 2005, with significant development pressure on farmland in Pemberton, Anna and Lisa Richardson started Slow Food Cycle Sunday to allow residents and out-of-towners to experience the importance of farmland and fresh produce.
