History

Todd Hellinga is a GIS/Lands Research Manager and owner of Cascade Environmental in Whistler as well as a former president of the Whistler Off-Road Cycling Association (WORCA). He was born in Hartley, IA in [1977] and moved with his family to Wentworth, ON when he was 7 years old. Todd began mountain biking while living in Ontario, usually riding the trails on the Niagara Escarpment. He helped start a mountain bike club in high school and did weekly rides, and then again in university, he found himself organizing group rides and traveling to the University Cup XC series. He competed a Bachelor of Science in geography with a post graduate diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) – Applications Specialist. Before moving to Whistler in the Fall of 2002, he spent two years working as a GIS Technician for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. He spent two and a half years working for a local professional land surveying company before joining Cascade Environmental in 2005. As a Principal of Cascade Environmental Resource Group Ltd. and a GIS Specialist, he coordinates the land and resource management section and provides support to Cascade’s GIS analysis, which includes mapping support and production, data analysis, as well as GPS field work. Todd is an active outdoor recreationist and avid mountain biker. He has previously sat as President, Planning Director, and Director of Membership for WORCA at different times. Todd has used his GIS, GPS, Cartography and land use planning skills during the preparation of the Sea to Sky Trail Master Plan, Kelowna Mountain Bike Trail Strategy, Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Trails Master Plan, Fraser Valley Regional District Outdoor Recreation Management Plan, Whistler Sproatt Alpine Trail Network Plan, and South Chilcotin Mountains Park Trail and Facilities Assessment, in addition to many other commercial and community development, and recreation planning projects. In His spare time, Todd enjoys mountain biking and photography. He has competed in many mountain bike races, including Phat Wednesdays, Crankworx, the Enduro World Series, the Funduro, and the 2017 Trans Provence race.
