History
Rolf Gunther is co-owner and head chef of the Rim Rock Cafe in Whistler. Originally from Rheinfelden, Germany, he received his formal hotel and restaurant management training in Heidelberg at Hotelfachschule Heidelberg and culinary training at the 4-star Park Hotel in Germany’s Black Forest region. He has since worked as a chef at the Chalet Suisse Restaurant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Kempinski Hotel in Berlin; Hotel Euler in Basel, Switzerland; the Capri Hotel in Kelowna, BC; the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, AB; the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Lake Louise, AB; and Restaurant Francesco Alongi in Vancouver. He moved to Whistler in 1976 and opened the award-winning Rim Rock Cafe with co-owner Bob Dawson in 1987. He and his wife, Trudel Gunther, live in the Alpine Meadows neighbourhood of Whistler and have a daughter named Bianca.
