W. A. Booty Griffiths was a Canadian ski shop owner, cross-country ski tour operator, miner, fisherman, and ski sales representative. He born in Revelstoke, BC, on October 23, 1916 to parents Tom and Alice. He grew up with 6 siblings (Jeff, Bun, Ernie, Esther, Dorothy, and Mercia) in Revelstoke, where he learned to ski and ski jump. As a young man, he worked in a number of mines in the Kootenays, then at Cominco in various departments. He then worked in the shipyards in Vancouver and was later a commercial fisherman on the West Coast for twenty-five seasons. He was married to Sharon Griffiths and had three daughters: Gail Griffiths, Wendy Coates, and Julie Duncan. Booty was very much involved in the development of skiing at Red Mountain. He moved to Rossland, BC in 1937, where he operated his own ski shop and supported the efforts of the local young people looking to improve their ski skills. Booty was the western Canadian representative for Lange boots, and later, the Dynastar and Solomon ski companies. When Booty retired from the sales travelling, he started a cross-country ski business and provided lessons, guided tours, and rental equipment in Rossland, BC. He enjoyed fishing, skiing, hiking, and traveling in his free time. He passed away on April 9, 2005. In his memory, Booty's Cabin in the Rossland Range was named for him, as well as Booty's Run at Red Mountain.
