Biografie

Rick Flebbe was a hairdresser, photographer, DJ, concert organizer, and longtime Whistler resident. He was living in Vancouver in the early 1980s working for high-end hair salon, Derek's of London, when he began travelling to Whistler at the weekends. He moved to Whistler in 1985 and became an outdoor photographer and postcard photographer. He was known for hiking in his cowboy boots. He named Beverly Lake after his wife, and Rick's Roost is named in his honour, as it was a place he like to go to look down over the valley. Flebbe became an early Whistler DJ, provided many local pubs with records, DJed at Buffalo Bills, and booked shows with Whistler Entertainment Agency's Larry Laporte, including the 1995 Beat Farmers' concert at the Longhorn Saloon, where singer Country Dick Montana died on-stage from heart failure. In more recent years, Flebbe DJed and hired bands including the Manvils, the Parallels, and Vancougar for Granville Street's Morrissey Irish Bar in Vancouver. In 2001, he became aware he had a benign brain tumour his whole life. When he came down with a severe headache after the Airborne Toxic Event show at Richard's on Richards on February 18, 2009, it became clear the tumour was not benign. Rick Flebbe passed away on February 21, 2009 at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver at age 61.
