Larry Beare was born in Hamilton, Ontario, where he attended McMaster University for an Honours degree in Economics and Political Science. He then attended University of Toronto's Law School and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1971. He entered private practice of law in 1971 and became a solicitor for Canadian Pacific Limited in 1976. Subsequently, he became Vice President and General Counsel of Canadian Pacific Enterprises Limited until 1986, when he became Vice President of Development for Canadian Pacific Hotels (now Fairmont Hotels and Resorts). In 1993, he joined Apotex Inc. of Toronto, where he was Vice President of International Development, until he joined CIBC Wood Gundy in the fall of 1999. In 1986, he attended the Harvard Business School Advanced management Program for a period of four months. He currently lives in Stratford, Ontario, where he is actively involved in the support of the Festival Theatre. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Stratford Summer Music Festival.
