History

AWARE (Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment) is a member driven charity that works to protect the natural environment in Whistler and the Sea to Sky through advocacy and speaking up about key environmental issues, while empowering others to do the same through science-based research and education. AWARE, which was started back in 1989, has taken on some large projects over the years to help wildlife, including the Cascade Grizzly Bear Initiative, Old Growth Forest preservation, and eliminating the need for single use plastic bags in Whistler. Many of AWARE's projects have been incorporated into the RMOW's Whistler 2020 Sustainability Plan.
