Dates of existence

Sue Adams grew up in Australia, but moved to Canada, finding work in occupational therapy. She met her Canadian husband, Bob Adams, in 1967. The couple lived in Vancouver, visiting Whistler on weekends until they conspired to make Whistler their full-time home. Sue managed several restaurants in the Lower Mainland and had experience with catering. They purchased The Grocery Store in Whistler Village in 1988 and ran it for 27 years before selling it to long-time employee, Mike Groot. The couple also opened the Upper Village Market, Pemberton Valley Supermarket, and Delish Cafe and Catering in Function Junction. Sue has served on the boards of the Maurice Young Millennium Place, Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival, The Playhouse Theatre and North Shore Credit Union as well as serving on the Premier's Small Business Round Table, the Whistler Summer Theatre Project, the Steering Committee for arts and culture in Whistler, and others. She's been honoured with the Business in Vancouver Influential Women in Business Award, Whistler Business and Arts Award, Business Person of the Year — along with her husband, Bob — and Whistler Citizen of the Year.
