Dave Burrus was born in New Westminster and worked as a firefighter. He and his wife Kathy visited Switzerland in 1968 and 1977 and decided they wanted a house in the mountains. Some of Dave's fellow firefighters were familiar with the Alta Lake area and recommended it to the couple. Initially unable to secure the lot they wanted, the Burruses bought a cabin in Alpine Meadows; in October 1979 they sold it and purchased Lot 22 from Alta Lake Estates Ltd. They built their own cabin with the help of firefighters from New Westminster. Stephan Ples was their original next-door neighbour. In 1988, the Burruses sold their cabin to Dave's sister and brother-in-law Lynn and Ken Watson, who lived there until 1996.

The Burruses found an unusual type of apple tree on their property which could not be conclusively identified by the B.C. Fruit Testers' Association. Cuttings from this tree were given to the B.C.F.T.A. and planted in Victoria.

Circa 2005, he and Kathy provided information about their property to Florence Petersen for her book, The History of Alta Lake Road.

Jim Burgess was a Whistler Mountain employee and one of the residents of the original Toad Hall. He lived there in the winter of 1967-68 with his coworkers John Hetherington, Drew Tait, and Mike Wisnicki. By 1970 Burgess had left the Hall and was a member of the Alta Lake Volunteer Fire Department, representing the Alpine Meadows/Emerald Estates area.

Alexander 'Alex' C. Bunbury was a land surveyor and the co-founder, along with his son Paul, of Bunbury Associates. His surveying projects included the Trans Mountain Pipeline, B.C. Rail, Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, Whistler Village, and the Grouse Mountain Gondolas. Alex and his wife Dorothy purchased property up Microwave Road (now Gondola Way) shortly after Whistler Mountain opened and built a ski cabin there. Bunbury was active in the Whistler community, serving as a member of North Shore Rescue, the Ski Patrol, the Fire Department, the Museum and Archives Society, and the Advisory Planning Board. An adventurous skier, he pioneered the Couloir run on Blackcomb Mountain, which was formerly known as Bunbury Chute. He also managed his sons' soccer teams.

Brian Buchholz is a long-time Whistler firefighter and fire inspector, having served with the Whistler Fire & Rescue Service from 2004 to 2018, and been the Acting Captain since 2014. He founded the Whistler Firefighter Fellowship Program in 2003 and received the inaugural fellowship with the Metropolitan Fire & Emergency Services Board in Melbourne, Australia the following year. Buchholz has also initiated the WFRS "Firesmart" Municipal Asset inventory and mitigation program and received the Federal Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada for service within an emergency services-first responder provider profession.

Buchholz's other contributions to Whistler include working in Media and Public Relations for Whistler-Blackcomb, coaching rugby at Whistler High School, playing Santa Claus for the BC Professional Firefighter’s Association Burn Fund, and co-chairing the Whistler Remembrance Day Service with his wife, Louise, for over 20 years. His support of veterans was honoured when he was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Pacific and Yukon) in 2006.

In addition, Buchholz has written several articles for Pique Newsmagazine, primarily on the topics of firefighting and the military.
