Anthony, Leslie

Leslie Anthony is a Whistler-based author, editor, poet, director, zoology professor, outdoor adventurer, and performer in stage musicals and documentaries. He has written for numerous magazines (Outside, Explore, Mountain Life Annual, Canadian Geographic, Ski Trax, Ski Canada, Equinox, sbsSKIER, PIQUE Newsmagazine, WB Magazine, The Tyee) on subjects including travel, sports, popular science, and the environment. He is/has been the Senior Contributor of Powder Magazine, Editorial Director of Mountain Life Annual, and Creative Director of SKIER Magazine. In addition, he has been the writer, editor, and photographer for his own company, Leslie Anthony Creative, since 1999. His credentials include a Master of Zoology from the University of Guelph and a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Toronto.

Books written by Anthony include "Snakebit: Confessions of a Herpetologist," "The Aliens Among Us," and "White Planet: A Mad Dash through Global Ski Culture." He also co-wrote and co-composed the music for "SNOW - Whistler: The Musical."

David 'Dave' Burke is a writer and editor with the Whistler Traveller Magazine. Prior to this, he was the editor of the Whistler Question from 2002-2010, the Squamish Chief from 2010-2014, and Whistler the Magazine in 2010. He has won a first-place Newspaper General Excellence award. Burke also works as a guest activity representative at Whistler Sport Legacies for special events such as the Biathlon Experience program and the 2010 Winter Olympics Nordic events.

Michelle Bush is a longtime figure in the Whistler arts scene, having worked as a stand-up comedian, actress, writer, columnist, filmmaker, producer, retailer, playwright, performance artist, chef, decorator, event organizer, impresario, bartender, village host, and food van driver. She is also known for founding the Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE) in 1988.

Her performances include "By The Time Cupid Got To Whistler He Was Drunk," "Scrooge Was Right!" and "Maxine and Blair's High School Reunion."

Lenskyj, Helen

Helen Jefferson Lenskyj is a sociologist, professor, researcher, writer, public speaker, and community activist. She was born in Sydney, Australia and moved to Toronto, ON in 1966, where she obtained her Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees in Sociology in Education at the University of Toronto. She was appointed associate professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education in 1990, promoted to full professor in 1996, and became professor emerita upon her retirement in 2007. She has published many books, papers, and journal and magazine articles, primarily on the topics of gender, sexuality, and politics in sport. In September 2009, she gave a talk about the negative impact of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games at the Whistler Public Library.

Nelson-Moody, Aaron

Aaron Nelson-Moody, also known as Tawx'sin Yexwulla (splashing eagle), is a Squamish carver and jeweller working in the Coast Salish tradition. Since beginning his career as an artist in 1998, he has worked with community groups and schools across Canada and in Japan and Scotland. Nelson-Moody's works include the doors to the B.C.-Canada pavilion at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games, several large pieces for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, four house boards for the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, a housepost at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and a repousse piece for the "Here and Now" exhibit at the Burke Museum in Seattle. He graduated from the Northwest Coast Jewellery Arts program at Vancouver's Native Education College in 2008.

In addition to his art career, Nelson-Moody has worked for Kahtou Native Newspaper and Adbusters Magazine as a writer and photographer. He is an active storyteller and dancer, and has volunteered for 10 years with the Uts'am Witness Project designed to reconnect city-dwellers with nature. Nelson-Moody has participated in two Tribal Journeys canoe trips using the Squamish Nation's 50-foot canoe, and one trip using Xwlacktun's family canoe, the Pekultun.

Paul, Heather

Heather Paul is a Systems Analyst and Project Manager at the Resort Municipality of Whistler and the current chair of Arts Whistler. A professional emcee, public speaker, writer, performance artist, and theater director, she is involved in many local artistic and cultural projects and events, including the Chidlren's Festival, the 2009 play "SNOW: Whistler the Musical," and the 2010-11 Whistler Presents Concert Series. She founded Short Skirt Theatre Company, which has been giving community productions at the Arts Centre since 2002. In 2017 Paul was named Whistler's Citizen of the Year.

Lisa Richardson is a writer who has penned articles for Whistler the Magazine and co-written SNOW: Whistler the Musical. She was also a member of the Whistler Museum and Archives staff in the 1990s.

Symko, Tina

Tina Symko is a Whistler resident and environmentalist who has been active in promoting sustainability. She received a Master of Resource Management from Simon Fraser University and moved to Whistler circa 1999. During her first several years in town, Symko was a dedicated volunteer for AWARE (Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment), serving on some of its working committees, such as Valley Bottom Wetlands and Whistler’s Wilderness Backyard. She also coordinated the Watershed Management Plans for the River of Golden Dreams and Crabapple Creek, helped implement the Natural Step Framework for the Whistler Sustainability Project, and worked with organizations such as the Langley Environmental Partners Society, Western Canada Wilderness Committee, and Greenpeace.

On November 15th 2001, she was appointed as Project Coordinator for AWARE. In this capacity she was responsible for fundraising, networking, organizing committees, and working with the board of directors. By this point, she had already published a number of papers in the field of environmental sustainability. Symko further contributed to Whistler in the following years by contributing photographs to the ‘Picturing Whistler: Local Faces, Local Spaces’ exhibit at the WMAS circa 2004, and writing several articles for Pique Newsmagazine (2002-2006).

Symko has been heavily involved with the Olympic Games. She was the Information Centre Manager for the Vancouver 2010 bid from 2002 to 2004, and the Senior Manager of Environmental Management & Stability for VANOC from 2002 to 2010. She began consulting with the Sochi Olympic organizers in 2010, culminating in a trip to Russia in 2012 to lead a workshop on the Forest Stewardship Council.

Tina Symko remains active in the Whistler community, having worked with Youth Services at the Whistler Public Library since 2011 and coached the Whistler Figure Skating Club since 2013. She is currently a Senior Associate for Ponsford and Associates Management Consulting.
