Marion MacComb is the mother of Arnold MacComb, a logger from the Harrison, BC area. They lived beside Jenny and Wallace Betts at Cheekye in the Squamish area for part of a year around 1940/41.

MacDermott, William "Bill" "Mac"

William "Bill" MacDermott, or "Mac", was an [American or Englishman] trail guide and prospector who settled in Alta Lake (now Whistler) in 1919 after he was wounded in World War I. He built five cabin at the south end of Alta Lake, one for himself and the others to rent. He sometimes acted as a trail guide for visitors in the valley. Hiking 15 miles up Whistler Mountain and north to a trapping cabin in Fitzsimmons Pass, the group would sleep on heather-stuffed mattresses. Daily climbing expeditions from the cabin would go to Red Mountain (now known as Fissile Peak), Cheakamus Lake, or the peak of Whistler Mountain. He sometimes accompanied Bill Bailliff and others in their search for places to mine on Whistler Mountain. On the fifth day, the expedition would make its way back down the trail into the valley. He also built rowboats. Mac had his own ice house insulated by sawdust, and he would harvest ice from Alta Lake each February. Those who would help him with the harvest were treated to Mac's homebrew brought up from beneath the floorboards of his cabin on Alta Lake.

MacDiarmid, Harvey

Harvey McDiarmid was an early Whistler resident and businessman. He presided over several companies and was an early investor in Whistler Mountain in the 1960s. He built the Highland Lodge (now the location of the Rimrock Cafe) in the Whistler Highlands with Roy Ferris in 1965. In addition to being employed in the timber sales, home-building, and oil and gas industries, Harvey was an active member with various charitable groups. His contributions included helping found the Variety Club of BC, where he helped to raise millions of dollars for the construction of the BC Children’s Hospital. In 1985, Harvey received the Variety Club’s Heath Award. He and his wife had five children: Philip, Wendy, Don, Bob, and Marion. He passed away on October 20, 2004 at his home in Coquitlam, BC.

Margaret MacDiarmid is a Canadian politician and Liberal Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of British Columbia from 2009 to 2013. She was born in BC to early Whistler resident and businessman Harvey MacDiarmid and had four siblings: Philip, Wendy, Don, and Bob. From 1975 to 1979, she completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biochemistry at Memorial University in St. John's, NL. From 1979 to 1983, she completed medical school at Queen's University in Kingston, ON and became a doctor. From 2006 to 2007, she was president of the BC Medical Association. She was first elected an MLA in the 2009 BC provincial election under the premiership of Gordon Campbell, representing the riding of Vancouver-Fairview. She served as Minister of Education; Minister of Tourism, Trade, and Investment; Minister of Health; Minister of Labour, Citizens' Services, and Open Government; and Minister Responsible for the Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat. In 2009, then Minister of Education, Margaret was rushed to Peace Arch Hospital for emergency treatment and transferred to Royal Columbian Hospital for intensive care for pneumococcal meningitis. MacDiarmid recovered and was later appointed Minister of Health in 2012 by Premier Christy Clark. Margaret was defeated in the 2013 provincial election by New Democrat candidate George Heyman. In 2013, she was appointed to the board of directors for Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. Her appointment lasted until 2017.

J. M. MacDonald was a Scotsman who lived at 34 1/2 Mile (near the area now known as Function Junction in Whistler) prior to 1922, when the Jardine-Neiland family moved there. They moved into his house after he passed away in a falling accident related to his work.
