Wing Sam was the second cook at Rainbow Lodge, taking over from Lam Shu in 1940. He was cook at the Lodge 1940-1948.
However he was in the 1921 census as living in Rainbow Lodge, with Lam Shu as the 'head' of the family and Wing Sam as his 'lodger'. At this time his occupation was 'cook' so he clearly was cooking at Rainbow Lodge as early as 1921, although presumably not the head cook. The census shows that he was born in China and immigrated to Canada in 1911.
Sam was Chinese and came to Alta Lake when he was 15 or 16. Myrtle taught him how to cook.*
