Cardinal Concrete Ltd.

Cardinal Concrete Ltd. is a supplier of ready-mix concrete for commercial and residential projects from Lions Bay to Pemberton. It includes two concrete plants (one of which is in Whistler), an aggregates quarry, and a concrete pumping business. Bob Fast began the business in 1973, having grown up on his family's dairy farm in the Fraser Valley and moving to Squamish that same year. Cardinal Concrete supplied projects including the Brennan Park Ice Area in 1979, the shops at the BC Rail Yards on Government Road in the early 1970s, the start of Whistler Village in 1979, the shops at Squamish Terminals in the early 1980s, the Sea to Sky Gondola, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, and the 2010 Winter Olympic venues in Whistler and the Callaghan Valley. Cardinal Concrete was sold by the Fast family to Lafarge Canada Inc. in 2019.

Capilano Winter Club

The organization of the Capilano Winter Club was founded in 1952. Skating and curling were the initial focus, with hockey, tennis, swimming and other activities following in later years. By July 1953, applications had been received from 321 families, and subsequently 2.15 acres were acquired on Capilano Road north of Marine Drive, where a clubhouse and ice skating/curling rink was constructed. By September 1956, 930 memberships had been received. In 1957 an Assembly Hall/gymnasium was built. The first tennis courts were built in 1958, with four new courts installed in 1962. In 1959, a regulation size pool, toddlers' pool, and patio made the club a year round operation. It amalgamated with the North Shore Winter Club in 1977. The Capilano Winter Club was the first family winter club in BC, and held the first summer skating school. It hosted the World Figure Skating Championships in 1960 and the North American Figure Skating Championships in 1963, besides a variety of other events.

Capilano Highlands Ltd.

Capilano Highlands Ltd. was a real estate development company from the Vancouver are which developed Alpine Meadows and Emerald Estates neighbourhoods in Whistler in the 1960s. The company also proposed building a central town site on the shores of Green Lake, but this never came to fruition, the town being built instead at the base of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. In the late-1960s Capilano Highlands Ltd. proposed to operate a small ski area at the base of Rainbow Mountain. The Rainbow Ski Area first opened in the winter of 1969/1970 with one 400-foot tow lift servicing a beginners’ slope. After that first winter, Capilano Highlands added a new 1,200-foot towrope, cleared four beginner/practice slopes leading off the lifts, and constructed a daylodge and a parking area.
