Quinlan, Chris

Christopher 'Chris' Quinlan grew up on the B.C. coast and worked in a logging camp before moving to Whistler in 1991 to enter the food and beverage industry. He held several jobs, including driving buses and working in restaurants, before becoming the founding president of the Restaurant Association of Whistler and helping develop the Restaurants of Whistler Dining Guide.

Quinlan has served on City Council and in the Chamber of Commerce, sat as vice-chair of the Whistler Housing Authority, and been the morning show host for 101.5 Whistler FM. Since 2009, he has been the director of the Whistler Center for Sustainability. From 2010 to 2018, he was the manager of the Whistler Farmer's Market. He went on to develop a successful Sea to Sky Farmer's Market collaboration and to found the website Marketwurks.com, which helps marketplace managers to process vendor applications.

Gordon Roberts is a Vancouver actor, singer, dancer, accompanist, director and musician with over 50 years of experience in Canada and the U.S. He performed on Blackcomb Mountain in the Whistler Summer Theatre circa 1995 (appearing in The Three Bears and Little Shop of Horrors) and again in SNOW - Whistler: The Musical around 2009. His other acting credits include Fiddler on the Roof, King Arthur’s Kitchen, Honk!, Evita, The Rocky Horror Show, The Music Man, Oklahoma, My Fair lady, and Little Women.

Alex McMorran is an actor, director and musician. Originally from Vancouver, he currently lives and works in the UK. He is an alumni of the University of British Columbia and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. He directed "Problem Child" in the inaugural season of Whistler's Blank Slate Theatre Festival and performed in "SNOW - Whistler: The Musical." Leslie Anthony is a Whistler-based author, editor, poet, director, zoology professor, outdoor adventurer, and performer in stage musicals and documentaries. He has written for numerous magazines (Outside, Explore, Mountain Life Annual, Canadian Geographic, Ski Trax, Ski Canada, Equinox, sbsSKIER, PIQUE Newsmagazine, WB Magazine, The Tyee) on subjects including travel, sports, popular science, and the environment. He is/has been the Senior Contributor of Powder Magazine, Editorial Director of Mountain Life Annual, and Creative Director of SKIER Magazine. In addition, he has been the writer, editor, and photographer for his own company, Leslie Anthony Creative, since 1999. His credentials include a Master of Zoology from the University of Guelph and a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Toronto.

Books written by Anthony include "Snakebit: Confessions of a Herpetologist," "The Aliens Among Us," and "White Planet: A Mad Dash through Global Ski Culture." He also co-wrote and co-composed the music for "SNOW - Whistler: The Musical."

Mitchell 'Mitch' Rhodes was a member of AWARE (Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment) from 1999 to 2004, serving as vice-president, president, and treasurer. Between 2003 and 2009 he provided first aid, transport, and rescue services on Whistler-Blackcomb mountains. He also served as a committee member for the Whistler 2020 Economic Task Force (2008-2009), a panelist in green filmmaking at the 2007 Whistler Film Festival, an advisory committee member of the Community Foundation of Whistler Environmental Legacy Fund (2001-2004), a director of the Whistler Center for Sustainability (2001-2004), and treasurer of the Whistler Health Care Foundation (1998-2003). He currently works for the Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia.

Wackernagel, Dr. Mathis

Dr. Mathis Wackernagel is a Swiss-born sustainability advocate and the creator of the 'ecological footprint' concept. In January 2002, he gave a talk for the AWARE Speaker Series in Whistler.

Wackernagel has a degree in mechanical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in community and regional planning at the University of British Columbia. He has served as the director of the Sustainability Program at Redefining Progress in California (1999-2003), director of the Centre for Sustainability Studies in Mexico (1995-2001), and adjunct faculty at SAGE of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2004) and is currently the President of the Global Footprint Network. Wackernagel has received many honours and awards for his work, including being named by The (En)Rich List as the 19th (out of 100) most inspirational individual contributing to sustainability.

Aitken, Dr. Donald

Dr. Donald Aitken is an expert in renewable energy sources. He gave a talk for AWARE's Speaker Series at some point prior to 2001. Aitken has served as President of the Solar Energy Society twice, created the first of 400 all-solar homes in the Lake Chapala area, and received many awards for his accomplishments and dedication to solar energy. He now lives with his wife and business partner, Barbara, in Ajijic, Mexico.

Frank L. Buckley was the Managing Director of the British Canadian Lumber Co. Ltd. and the Pacific Lumber and Trading Co. Ltd. (possibly the same organization) in 1924. He assisted Kenneth Racey with buying a parcel of land on Alta Lake from the B.C. Department of Lands.
