Burns, Terry

Terry Burns was a skier associated with Labatt's Breweries. He recruited the retired ski racer Bob Styan to be the B.C. ski coordinator for Labatt's in the early 1980s. During the 1993 Labatt Blue Whistler Mountain Ski Classic, he was in charge of on-hill signage for sponsor sales.

Mike Douglas is a freeskiier known as "the godfather of freeskiing" due to his efforts in pioneering the sport during the 1990s. Douglas, who grew up in Campbell River, knew that he was destined for skiing from a young age. In high school, he shot a super 8 video called "Born to Ski" for an English assignment. This was the beginning of an auspicious career: he went on to join the New Canadian Air Force ski team, design a twin-tip ski (the Salomon 1080) in 1997, and found a Whistler production studio, Switchback Entertainment, which focuses on snow sports. His films include "50 Years of Going Beyond," a tribute to the centenary of Whistler Mountain in 2016.

Ole Christian Furuseth is a retired Norwegian alpine skier who was active between 1985 and 2002. He competed in the 1993 Labatt Blue Super G at Whistler Mountain. Throughout his career Furuseth won 6 World Cup victories in slalom and 3 in giant slalom, as well as the silver medal in slalom at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. Since retiring he has worked in construction and as a real estate developer at the Kvitfjell Ski Resort.

Hallat, Matt

Matt Hallat is a Vancouver-born former para-alpine skier and three-time paralympian who served on the Canadian Para Alpine Team for 13 years. After losing a leg to cancer as a child, he was enrolled in a para-skiing program and quickly came to love the sport. Having wanted to become an Paralympic medalist since his preteen years, Hallat joined the World Cup team at 18 upon graduation from high school. When the 2010 Winter Olympics were announced in 2003, he decided to move to Whistler in order to train.

Hallat's first Paralympics was the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy. He worked on a Bachelor of Business Administration during the lead-up to these games, then switched to training full time in preparation for 2010. He carried the Paralympic torch and lit the Community Cauldron in Whistler during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, in which he achieved 11th place in the downhill ski race. His third and final Paralympics was the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

In addition to the Olympic Games, Hallatt's career highlights were two podium finishes with the IPC World Cup and a bronze medal win in the slalom at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships. His last ever run as a competitive skier was slalom at the Sport Chek Canadian Nationals Championships in 2015. He retired later that year and finished a Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems and Finance from Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University.

Hallat went on to become an ambassador for para-athletes, serving on the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the International Para-Alpine Athletes Council for one month each in 2015. In November of that year he appeared at the Canadian Paralympic Committee's first ever Paralympic Search, an event to recruit athletes with physical disabilities or visual impairments. He has been an ambassador for Right to Play since 2010. He currently works as the Athletic Director for Alpine Canada and co-owns a yacht detailing company with his wife.
