Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association

The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association is one of six regional tourism boards under Tourism BC. The association began as the Cariboo Tourism Association (CTA), worked in conjunction with Tourism BC and regional stakeholders to gather research data and host meetings with the goal to help market tourism in the Cariboo Chilcotin area. At the 1999 CTA annual general meeting held in Quesnel, the “Land Without Limits” slogan was adopted, along with the new name Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association.

Carney's Waste Systems

Carney’s Waste Systems was a waste management company that served the Sea to Sky region from 1965 to 2017. Carney's provided services including waste removal, recycling, removal of construction and demolition debris, portable toilet rentals, septic pumping, residential garbage and recycling pickup, residential recycling depots, and special events waste management. Carney’s also managed waste and recycling facilities on behalf of local municipalities including Squamish Landfill, the Whistler and Pemberton Transfer Stations, and the Whistler Compost Facility. Owen Carney started the business in 1965 in Squamish, moved into Whistler in 1970, and Pemberton in 1980. Carney's was instrumental in devising the waste management plan for the corridor in the 1980s, and remained a contributor and participant in many community organizations and events. As Owen Carney neared his mid-70s, he sold his shares to long-time family friend and owner of Smithrite Disposal, Gordon Smith in 2017. From that point, Carney's came under Smithrite Disposal, which went under the name Green For Life (GFL) Environmental in Whistler.

Chateau Whistler Resort

The Chateau Whistler Resort opened in Upper Village in Whistler in 1989, at the base of Blackcomb Mountain. The resort was owned by Canadian Pacific Hotels, a branch of the railway company Canadian Pacific Rail. The architectural mandate when building the resort was to ‘infuse the charm and style of other Canadian chateaux built earlier in the century, into a modern structure.’ The interior design was under the direction of internationally-acclaimed interior designer Frank Nicholson. The resort expanded in 1997, with the addition of 221 guestrooms for a total of 550 rooms, a new 12,000 square foot ballroom, four breakout meeting rooms, a rooftop garden terrace, and an expanded spa facility. In 1999, Canadian Pacific Hotels and Fairmont merged, meaning the Chateau Whistler Resort would change its name to the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.
