Doris Jane Burrows (nee Archer) was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and received a degree in Marketing Research at Ryerson University before travelling to Vancouver to take a teaching degree at UBC. There she met Paul Burrows, who she married in 1971. The couple moved to Whistler so that Jane could teach the primary grades at Signal Hill in Pemberton. She was among the first teachers at Myrtle Philip Elementary School when it opened in 1973. Jane also served as a member of the Alta Lake Community Club, volunteered for the Whistler Museum and Archives Society, and co-published the Whistler Question newspaper with Paul. They continued to reside in their Alpine A-Frame until moving to Salmon Arm in 2000.
