Penny McLeod (nee), at times known as Penny Ryan, is a resident of Whistler. She and her husband, John Ryan, are philanthropists focused on raising funds for spinal cord research. In 1999, John traveled 5,400 kilometres across Canada on a hand-cycle bike to raise more than $1 million for spinal cord research, with the money being put into a BC Leadership Chair Fund, an joint initiative with the BC government, private donors, and one of the world's leading spinal research centres, based in Vancouver. In the early 2000s, its name later changed to The John and Penny Ryan Leadership Chair Fund, the fund was set up to create Canada’s largest endowed fund focused on spinal cord injuries, community based rehabilitation, science and technology, and a national network for scientists and doctors to share their discoveries. John and Penny have since held fundraising dinners in order to add to this fund.

Canadian Helicopters Ltd, formerly a part of the Canadian operations of CHC Helicopter Corporation, operates 112 aircraft from 26 bases across Canada and provides a broad range of helicopter services to support the following activities: emergency medical evacuation; infrastructure maintenance; utilities; oil and gas; forestry; mining; construction; and air transportation. Its services include operating an advanced flight school; providing third party repair and maintenance services; and providing helicopter services in the United States in support of specialty operations including forest fire suppression activities and geophysical exploration programs. Canadian Helicopters Ltd. was formed in 1987 as a merger (led by Sealand Helicopters founder Craig Dobbin, from Newfoundland) between Sealand Helicopters (founded in 1977), Toronto Helicopters (founded in Ontario), and Okanagan Helicopters Ltd. (previously known as Okanagan Air Services and founded in Penticton, BC in 1947). Until November 2000, Canadian Helicopters was the domestic operating arm of Canadian Helicopters International, a wholly owned subsidiary of CHC Helicopter Corporation. In 2000, Canadian Helicopters was divested by way of a management buy-out. The company continued operations as Canadian Helicopters until it was renamed HNZ Group Inc. after acquiring that company. In December 2017, the company was taken private as Canadian Helicopters Ltd. As of September 2019, Canadian Helicopters Ltd. has two air operator's certificates. The first, 18373, is Canadian Helicopters Limited - Hélicoptères Canadiens Limitée trading as Canadian Helicopters Offshore in Enfield, NS with two helicopters in Goffs (Halifax Stanfield International Airport). The second, 11988, is used for the rest of the fleet in Les Cèdres, QC, where they are headquartered.

Doug Hare is a Canadian retired helicopter and float plane pilot and helicopter base manager based in Whistler. He grew up in North Vancouver, where he attended Delbrook Senior Secondary School from 1965 to 1967. From 1968 to 1972, he was a float plane pilot for Alert Bay Air Services in Alert Bay, BC. In 1972, he moved to Whistler, where he was a helicopter pilot and the base manager at Whistler Mountain for Okanagan Helicopters until 1978. In the spring of 1978, Doug worked as a float plane pilot for West Coast Air Services, and from the summer of 1978 to 1980, he worked as a corporate helicopter pilot for L & K Lumber in North Vancouver. From 1980 to 1999, he was the chief helicopter pilot and the operations manager for MacMillan Bloedel in BC. From 1999 to 2003, Doug was the corporate aviation operations manager for Weyerhaeuser in BC, then from 2003 to 2007, he worked there as the operations manager as well as a helicopter pilot. From 2007 to 2012, he was the director of aviation for Weyerhaeuser, based in Seattle, WA. Doug retired as a corporate pilot in 2012, and his since been living in Whistler.

Charles "Chad" Willson Murray was a helicopter pilot bas in British Columbia. He was born on November 10, 1944. Chad worked in the helicopter industry for 40 years and was a helicopter pilot for Okanagan Helicopters in the 1970s. He would often pilot helicopters for fighting wildfires. He and his wife, Fern, had a daughter named Pamela and a son named Trevor. Chad passed away at Peace Arch Hospital in Peace Arch, BC on September 2, 2008.

Noble, Earl

Norman Earl Noble, who went by Earl Noble, was a Royal Canadian Air Force flight officer, lumber mill owner, and helicopter pilot for Okanagan Helicopters who was based in North Vancouver. Earl was born in St. Albert, AB and was raised in North Vancouver. After graduating from North Vancouver High School in 1941, Earl joined the RCAF during World War II, where he became a flight officer with commission. After the war, from 1945 to 1950, he drove a logging truck until he and his father, Morley Noble, built Nova Lumber in North Vancouver. Earl owned and continued to work at Nova Lumber until 1988, when it was sold. Earl never lost his love for flying, and had several airplanes and helicopters over the years. He also enjoyed fishing, skeet-shooting, duck hunting, skiing, and golf. He was a long-time member of Capilano Golf Club. He had three children: Greg, Vic, and Pam.
